Say Bye Bye to 'Full-Strength Teams' Rule

grant(espn_gettyimage)The Premier League has a rule that most  football clubs would rather see it goes then stays. It is the E20 rule which states: 'In every league game, each participating club shall field a full-strength team.' The problematic rule will be loosened next season, according to an announcement by the Premier League earlier this week. We agreed that this rule is problematic too, if the rule didn't exist, the relegated clubs might have been different.

Problem 1: Define Full-Strength TeamReally. How can you define the full-strength team? Manager might want to change tactics against a different club and some players may fit certain tactics better than others. So who is to judge other than their manager himself?

Problem 2: Disadvantage in UEFA LeaguesWhen other European teams can rest their team and play a full-strength team in Champion League or the Europa, our poor EPL players has to play every single game, and how can you blame them for no performing well?

Problem 3: They should ask for a 11 players list not 25La Liga teams use not-too-important games to train their young players, unlike EPL teams who only use their young players in Carling Cup or early stage of FA Cup. So, next time don't complain England do not have enough young talent or whatsoever, look at how much chances you have given them, despite ask clubs to submit a 25 players list and allow them to use young English players freely. Most of these players are mostly not the Best eleven and if no one got injured, they are not allowed to play.

Problem 4: Changes in relegation scenarioTeams that are always near the relegation zone have limited resources and even using a full-strength team, they may still lose to teams that at the top of the table. If they were allowed to use a different team, they can rest their best players to fight teams that they actually stand a chance to win. Won't this make the League more interesting?

Do you want the rule to stay or go? Discuss.

  1. As an audience, you never want to watch U21 bolton against U19 wolves live (well, not me), what's the point of paying 30pounds in advance for this, I could drive to the reserve team ground n watch that for free.

  2. You have a point there, but in terms of clubs, I just think it is better to have this rule removed and who know, U21 bolton and U19 wolves may surprise you, young player are not as good becoz they are not given enough chances. Look at Wilshere, who wouldn't pay 30 pounds to watch him play and in fact he is U21 =))
