Kitchee vs TSW Pegasus: Emotional FA Cup Final Turns Violent

TSW Pegasus, Kitchee, FA Cup, Final

At first glance of this picture, it kinds of reminded me of El Clasico. Yeah, I know Kitchee and TSW Pegasus can be in no way compare with Barcelona and Real Madrid, but isn’t this scene familiar? Didn’t El Clasico usually end with some red cards and fights? Need not to emphasize how much we dislike such scenes as they always ruined a great match. Alright, let’s get back to the topic.

Kitchee and Pegasus were the finalists in two cups this season, FA Cup and the League Cup. They also finished first and second in the local league. After Pegasus lost the league title and League Cup champion to Kitchee, they were determined to win the FA Cup final, to step away from the shadow that Kitchee left for them. The game was also the last game of the season, win or lose, it means a lot to both parties. Not only it will be the last professional game for Kitchee player Roberto; it will also mark the end of Ming Chan’s coaching career in Pegasus. With rumors that many players will leave Pegasus next season, this is the game they have to win!

The game didn’t start well for Pegasus, as the coach display a bizarre lineup with top scorer Carrijo and playmaker Lee Hong Lim both on the bench. Both teams were testing water in the first half, spending most time near the half way line. In the end, Kitchee managed to score their first goal at 32nd minute. As the situation got worse, Pegasus coach Ming Chan finally realized he needed to make some changes immediately, by putting on both Carrijo and Lee Hong Lim not long after half time. The changes apparently made great impact to the team as Carrijo scored the equalizer at 68th minute. Both team failed to find the back of the net after, therefore the game went into extra time.

Pegasus’ players seems to have better physical strengths then Kitchee as the game went into extra time. Carrijo scored the second goal for Pegasus in the first half of extra time, given Pegasus the lead they have been looking for. Soon after, Mckee scored the third goal for Pegasus and everyone in the stadium probably thought this goal would have sealed the victory for the team. Yet, Lo Kwan Yee immediately scored a goal for Kitchee, closing it to 3-2.

Soon before the ending of extra time, Kitchee’s Recio brought down Godfred. After exchanging a few words, players started pushing each other and Kitchee assistant coach Ricky Cheung came over to Pegasus’ bench shouting at Pegasus’ staff and coaches. The situation became uncontrollable. When it finally cooled down, referee showed second yellow card to Recio. Kitchee was down to ten men as referee announced 7 minutes additional time.

Things happened real quick afterwards. Lau Nim Yat was showed second yellow card and Pegasus too, down to ten men. When Kitchee was given a corner, Mckee needed to step out of the field to receive treatment, leaving Pegasus with just 9 men on the pitch. With this advantage, Kitchee scored their third goal not long before the referee blew his whistle to indicate the end of extra time. The scored was 3-3. The game went into penalty shootout.

With such a turnover, it wasn’t hard to imagine how much Pegasus players’ emotions must have been affected and penalty taking requires mental strength. Lee Hong Lim missed his penalty and Kitchee scored all five, so the trophy, again, went to Kitchee.

We would like to congrats Kitchee for winning yet again another trophy! It was a great achievement winning not only the league title but FA Cup and League Cup as well.
