With the Euro 2012 in less than a day to go, in no particular order, we present you our list of players who will keep your football radar beeping throughout the entire tournament.

Robin van Persie (Striker, Netherlands)
Just when Arsenal looked like they were short of gun powders, RVP came firing hot. His stellar performance has kept the gun shooting and earned Arsenal third place in the league and himself the top scorer of the season with a whopping record of 41 goals in 53 games. However, after such a tiring season at Arsenal and all the contract dramas going on, will van Persie be able to bring Netherlands the trophy they have been looking for? Our answer is positive! We predict RVP will be able to maintain the momentum he had in London. Not being able to lift the World Cup trophy is also a driving factor for him to do well. We are not expecting a goal fest here but we strongly believe that he will be an inspiration for his team and other players.

Scott Parker (Midfielder, England)
If there’s anyone who can help strikers park the ball perfectly well at the back of the net, it would be Scott Parker (Pun intended!). We wonder why he is NOT named Captain of England, nevertheless, we believe this will not stop the midfielder from putting up a tough fight. From his days as a Hammer to becoming a key player in Tottenham, Parker has demonstrated great leadership skills, strong determination, tactical game play and he is always a step ahead of his opponents. Parker’s role in the squad will be a crucial one as England is currently short of midfielders and defenders due to injuries. What to expect from his matches? Blood, sweat, blood, and more blood...Yes, this is how much efforts he will put as this is his first time representing England in such a big tournament and probably his last as well. But no, those scenes are definitely not for the weak hearts.

Mario Götze (Midfielder, Germany)
The common saying goes ‘Old is gold’. But goldies out there, it’s time to make way for Golden Boy, Mario Götze. Being just 20 years old, Götze is already being dubbed “One of the BEST Talents” Germany ever had. Prepare to be awed by his speed, attacking skills, play-making abilities, and of course, some goals. We are pretty sure that you don’t want to miss the making of a world class player to be. Having a young blood like Götze and other wonderful players on the team, we can foresee a good chance for Germany to lift the trophy this time.

Fernando Llorente Torres (Striker, Spain)
Fernando Llorente is definitely a key player in the defending champion’s squad. He may be nicknamed as El Rey León (The Lion King) because of his hair, but to the opponents, he IS a lion. With his impeccable play, he is the nightmare of many defenders, as he is not only a big threat with great foot works, he is strong in the air too. Expect some chaos and roars at the back when the Lion King is on the pitch.  With David Villa missing in action, the weight is even heavier on Llorente’s shoulder as Spain does need him to score goals. Let’s pray and hope that the other Torres will share some of his burden.

James McClean (Winger, Republic of Ireland)
McClean may not be the most controversial player around but he did stir up quite a hype after he chose to play for the Republic of Ireland instead of Northern Ireland. Sectarian abuse, discriminatory comments and even death threats were tweeted to him when he was summoned by the national team. Well, there will always be haters around, but what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger! Instead of feeling discouraged, we predict that McClean will strive even harder to make an impact so huge that his opponents and you, will be stunned by this hidden gem. Don’t say we did not warn you for surprises!

Jordi Alba (Left back/Midfielder, Spain)
Jordi Alba is another young blood to look out for in this tournament. He may be the youngest member in Spain squad but he has demonstrated great flexibility in switching roles. Initially a striker, he was switched to play as a defender by Valencia’s coach and on top of that, being a midfielder was also part of his resume. And with the recognition of being one of the best left back in the world, Manchester United and Barcelona are battling each other to get his signature. United sees him as an ideal long term replacement for Patrice Evra; while Barcelona sees the potential of him maturing into a flawless football player. Boy, you sure have a great future ahead!

It is impossible to include all the great players in such a short article, so do let us know if you think we have missed out some big names!
