Weekend Sum-up: Hong Kong FA Cup First Round and more…

 1

Which one of these interest you more? Man City continues to lose points? Real Madrid continues to lead the La Liga table? Or Hong Kong Sapling managed to qualify for FA Cup second round after penalty shootouts with Tuen Mun? Guess I shall start with our local league first.

In Hong Kong League…

All league games made way for the FA Cup in the past weekend. There were only four teams participating in the first round, they were Tuen Mun, Hong Kong Sapling, Kitchee and Citizen. Both games took place in Mong Kok Stadium on Sunday.

Tuen Mun played against Hong Kong Sapling in the earlier match, Hong Kong Sapling had a 3-1 lead but they threw the lead away at the very last minute which allowed the game to go into extra time. Both teams didn’t score during extra time, therefore the game went into the deadly penalty shootout. Tuen Mun missed their first penalty and Hong Kong Sapling scored all of theirs, clearly they had done some work to prepare for penalties. Hong Kong Sapling will face TSW Pegasus in the second round.

Kitchee qualifies to the second round with a 1-0 victory against Citizen. Citizen keeper Tse Tak Him made a mistake which allowed Kitchee to score an early goal at the 20th minute. The team tried to fight back but their efforts didn’t turn into a goal. Kitchee will play SCAA in the second round.

In EPL…

The big game between Chelsea and Tottenham turned out to be a boring one. This game ended with a nil nil scoreline and nothing more to talk about. Tottenham is now the 4th team on the table, 3 points behind Arsenal, and 5 points ahead of Chelsea. Their aim is to participate in the Champions League next season, which is actually looking good. The team will have their FA Cup rematch with Bolton on 27th March.
After their draw with Stoke City, Man City is now 3 points behind Man United. With some big games coming up, will they be able to win the champion? Or again Man United is going to get it?

In La Liga…

Real Madrid won the game against Real Sociedad with a big 5-1 to end their frustrations after drawing Villarreal and Malaga. While Barcelona continue to fight for the title with a 2-0 victory against Mallorca. Real Madrid is still leading the table with a 6 points different. El Clasico will be played on 22nd April, if Barcelona managed to win it again, it will be just a 3 points gap. There are still some strong opponents in Real Madrid’s upcoming matches, for example, Valencia, Osasuna, Sevilla and Bilbao. On the other hand, Barcelona has Malaga, Levante, Bilbao and Espanyol. Guess we just need to wait and see how things turn out after 22nd April.
