Please welcome, Player Thursday! From this week onwards, every two weeks, we will have a Player Thursday, to introduce you players that we think you should know or know more about. And we would like to begin it with, Billy Sharp, a brave dad.

You may or may not heard of him before (mostly probably the latter), but his name was all over British press yesterday, why? No, he is not a new raising star, indeed, he plays as a striker for Doncaster Rovers. So did he score against Manchester United or something? No, he scored against Middlesbrough in their Championship clash, just days after the death of his son, Luey Jacob Sharp. His two days old son died few days ago, and no one expected him to play in the match, but he did and he scored. After he scored, he lifted his shirt over his head to reveal ‘That’s For You, Son’, referee didn’t give him a yellow card.

No matter the result was Middlesbrough 3-1 Doncaster Rovers, or the other way round, this night, no one will remember anything, but the gesture of a brave father. It is not easy to lose a family member, and it is even harder for him to face it and step onto the field. Although it was just two days, surely baby Luey would be proud to have a dad like this.

We couldn’t agree more with Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray, it was a goal from heaven.
