While most players still enjoying their holiday on a beach somewhere, David Villa took his time to play football with these kids, in his home town.
All these 'guajes' were wearing a shirt with our 'El Guaje' on it!

So do you know what El Guaje actually means? If you try to look up a Spanish dictionary, you will probably get something like 'gourd' or 'calabash', but that is not what it means here. David Villa explained it in detail on this website, but if you don't want to read the long article. We will give you a summary. =)

'Guaje' is a word that commonly used in Asturias, where our 'El Guaje' was born. The Spanish meaning cannot quite apply because this is not really Spanish. Asturias has a dialect called, Asturian. In Asturian, 'Guaje' means kid or boy. It is usually used to refer to the assistants of miners, which many of you should already know that Villa's father was a miner. So people started calling him 'Guaje' since he was a kid, until now.

  1. [...] El Guaje just told everyone what he was doing in the USA, having dinner with Pedro and Busquets. One question immediately popped up in our mind, ‘Where are the rest of the teammates?’. While Dani Alves is still enjoying his holiday, we hope other Barca players are all having fun in the United State and we can’t wait to see them play against Manchester United later today! [...]
