So the football season is coming to an end. Championship teams played their last games during the weekend, now all eyes are on the play-offs, wondering who will be the third team joining Premier League next season. Dramas seems to continue in the Premier League, Wigan looks set to earn themselves another season in the Premier League, pretty amazing huh? As for the Hong Kong league, title run is over for SCAA and Sun Hei after they lost the FA Cup games on Sunday. To top all these news? How about Hodgson will be the next England manager?

In Championship…

Last round of Championship was played on Saturday. Reading won the title although they lost their last game to Birmingham by 2-0. On the other hand, Southampton secure their second place after trashed Coventry 4-0. Therefore, although West Ham managed to defeat Hull, they are still heading to the play-offs, together with Birmingham, Cardiff and Blackpool. West Ham will play Cardiff and Birmingham will play Blackpool. The first leg of the play-offs is on 3rd and 4th May.

Who do you want to see in Premier League next year?

In Premier League…

The most important game of the week played yesterday, between Manchester City and Manchester United. Not sure if it was the home atmosphere that stopped the Red Devil, the team just couldn’t deliver. So the better side won the game. Kompany scored the only goal in the game and helped City secured three points. Now both teams have 83 points but City is leading the table as they win in goal differences.

Battle for the 4th place is equally dramatic. To everyone surprise, Wigan trashed Newcastle with a 4-0 scoreline. So now Newcastle has the same points as Tottenham after Spurs defeated Blackburn. Newcastle will play Man City this weekend. The outcome of this game will affect both the title run, and probably will decide who is heading to Champions League qualifying too.

Wigan on the other hand, after winning Man United and Newcastle, looks good to stay in the Premier League for another season. Isn’t this an amazing thing they have accomplished? Struggles at the relegation zone every season, yet always managed to survive in the end.

In Hong Kong League…

Eight teams participated in the FA Cup games during weekend. TSW Pegasus beats Hong Kong Sapling by 5-1; and Sham Shui Po managed to qualify into semi-finals after extra time with a 2-1 scoreline against Tai Po. Pegasus will play Sham Shui Po on 12th May.

On Sunday, after the rainy morning, the matches managed to carry on as scheduled. Sun Hei played Rangers in the earlier game. The game was expected to move into extra time as both teams didnt score until 78th minute. Ranger’s Lam Hok Hei scored a goal and all dramas started to kick in. 80th minute Sun Hei’s Cordeiro was sent off; and at 86th minute, Ho Kwok Chuen (who usual plays as goalkeeper) replaced Jack Sealy and took on midfielder position. But that didn’t change the game, Ranger went on to score another goal and sealed their place in semi-finals.

South China took on Kitchee afterwards. Although South China created plenty of opportunities, Kitchee displayed their well-organized football. Great team work allowed them to take the lead in the game since 11th minute. South China tried to fight back but they only managed to make it 2-3 by scoring their second goal at stoppage time. Kitchee will play Ranger on 13th May.

In England…

England FA just announced they have appointed Roy Hodgson as England new manager. The news has shocked the world as most believed Harry Redknapp is the best choice for England. We are not sure how Hodgson will do in England but we have seen him with Liverpool. No doubt he is good with West Brom now but England is a team with lots of ‘stars’ and with all the pressure, well, we are just not sure he will done a very good job in England. What do you think?
