Player Thursday: Super Donovan

If you have been waiting for our Player Thursday, sorry for letting you down and kept you waiting. Life has been busy but we have been trying hard to keep on track! Let’s get back to the topic. Yes, Landon Donovan.

Many probably remember him from the 2010 World Cup, not for me but that was the time when he gave me a strong impression. USA is never the top teams in football (men football), but somehow, the team got into last 16 and managed to impress a lot of people. Donovan played a big role in it.

I know all were long ago but since Donovan is back on loan with Everton now, guess some of you will be interested in him. If I have to sum up in a sentence, ‘He is the hero of USA men football team.’ He scored the winning goal against Algeria in World Cup 2010 group stage to make USA the winner of the group and qualify for next round. Although they lost to Ghana in the knock-out stage, USA’s never-give-up spirit was remembered. Donovan was the key person in the tournament, without him, USA wouldn’t have gone that far. He is now the highest scoring American man in World Cup history.

Because of his incredible performance during World Cup 2010, Everton wanted to have him back, on a loan deal. Yet. Donovan chose to stay in the United States, to get some rest after a long season and to save his marriage.

Apparently he likes his life in England, and now he is back with Everton again. I am sure he can help Everton in a lot of ways, as he can play as a forward and attacking midfielder as well. Landon Donovan may not be a big name in the football world, but in the United States where they called it soccer, everyone knows him. He played along side Beckham in LA Galaxy and was named MLS All-Time Best XI, won golden boot in 2008 and silver boot in 2010.

Let’s see how much can he impress you playing in the Premier League for Everton again.
