Film Title: Goal! ; Goal II & Goal III
Cast: Kuno Becker, Alessandro Nivola, Anna Friel
Synopsis: Think this three films pretty much sum up what a footballer’s life is expected to be. Firstly, you try hard to get into a professional club, then you fight for a place in the first team. Secondly, you move on to a better club, one of the giants and plays in the European stage. Lastly, you play in the World Cup.

The first film talks about how Santiago Muñez (Becker) went all the way to England, just to get a trial in Newcastle, he struggled through the trial, got into the reserve, and in the end, plays for the first team alongside all the players he wanted to become. Apart from the football bit, the film talks about life outside the field as well, how a person turns into celebrity from a nobody, getting all the fames and money, but still manage to stay on their feet.

The second film touches on the second stage in football, Muñez has joined Real Madrid and became a real football star. It talks about the problems that players need to deal with while they became the centre of attention, lust, money, injury, and so on. When you are on your way up there, there are things that you will have to lose.

The third film is just horrible and disconnected from the first two, Muñez not even the main character any more, so I guess we can just leave it out. Piece of advise, if you loved the first two, DON’T watch the last.
Things need to be improved: Personally, I only think the first film was worth watching, the second film was average and third was horrible. If I had not studied film before, I could have been less picky, but I did..so... The first film was not bad, it has a well-structured story line, some parts were touching, some were inspiring but what I don’t like was the match part. I mean, if you can’t get the real players to involve in the film then just don’t use their names, it is funny to see Carragher in the film for one second and next second someone else wearing his shirt. But this improved in the second film as Beckham, Casillas and a number of Real Madrid players were actually involved in the acting part. However, the second story is a bit dragging as some parts are just not necessary. The last film was a huge disappointment and I think everything in that film needs to be improved!

Quotes: 'He’s grown up in poverty and hardship, and his only way out, is his skill with the ball…When I was a scout, I use to spend the whole times on muddy days, watching young lads clogging the shite out of each other and just once in a while, there will be one come along and lift your heart.' –Glen. (This basically sums up most great footballers in the world.)

Rating: 5/10
