Yesterday was a match day, and after being away from local football for a couple weeks, we CANNOT miss this final. It is the first final of the season, Senior Shield Final between Sun Hei and SCAA. The game was played in Hong Kong Stadium yesterday, these two teams played a very exciting final despite the cold and windy weather.

The game wasn’t very entertaining until the referee blew his whistle to indicate the beginning of second half. Just 7 minutes into the second half, Sun Hei’s Milovanovic scored the first goal of the game, given Sun Hei 1-0 lead. However, just when the Sun Hei fans were still celebrating the goal that might bring them the trophy, SCAA immediate scored an equalizer, in just 2 minutes after Sun Hei’s goal. Goal scorer Chan Wei Ho.

This seems not enough to take away hopes of Sun Hei’s fans. The referee pulled out a bring red card and showed it to Li Hang Wui at 56th minute. A card that I don’t think is necessary. Sun Hei was down to ten men and many might have thought that SCAA will score their winning goal sooner or later. But it never came. Every Sun Hei player gave it all to stop SCAA from scoring, and Sun Hei goalkeeper Hou Yu saved countless shots that looked impossible to save. SCAA didn’t stop attacking until when the game went into extra time. Both teams looked tired and the pace started to go slower, but SCAA still have several chances but Sun Hei looked determined to defense till the very last minute. Their efforts paid off and the game went into penalty shootout.

Penalty shootout was definitely the last thing SCAA wanted, as it means they were unable to beat a ten men team in more than an hour. Not sure if it was the stress or tiredness, SCAA missed one of their penalty and Sun Hei scored all of theirs. Winning the first trophy of the season definitely means a lot to the team, especially captain Cordeiro, as this is his last season.

Congrats to Sun Hei and we hope for more exciting finals to come, and apologies for lack of photos as our photographer has been really busy.
